Clever Counsel #21 - Keep it simple

Sometimes I have to remind myself - keep it simple, stupid.

I talk about a lot of big ideas for growing your business. I share a lot of different tips and strategies. I have lists upon lists of ideas to try out in future.

But it really doesn’t have to be that complicated.

Building a client pipeline ultimately comes down to two things:

1 / Sustain awareness (stay top of mind)

This is everything from LinkedIn content to developing and sharing value-add materials to being featured in media, podcasts, speaking opps, to newsletters, blogs, social media platforms - and attending in-person events.

It’s also everything you do 1:1 to keep your warm network warm (a lot of checking in to share helpful resources, a lot of virtual coffees, a lot of providing complimentary counsel).

Sustaining awareness means being visible day-to-day with your targets so they think of you when a need strikes.

And PS - the "engagement" you get on your content is a very small consideration; here's why.

2 / Put new irons in the fire (grow your audience)

This is how you add new prospective clients to your audience all the time - asking for introductions and referrals from your warm network, sending LinkedIn connection requests and follow-up notes to try to schedule chats, inviting people to subscribe to your content or grab your lead magnet, commenting on people’s posts and starting conversations with them, handing out business cards, reaching out to everyone who visits your LinkedIn profile, as well as everyone who likes and comments on your content.

It’s that steady and constant growth of your warm audience - all the people who may someday engage you for a project, introduce you to someone you want to meet, or partner with you.

If you’re feeling overwhelmed - or just having a bad day - focus your attention on doing just one thing to sustain awareness, and just one thing to grow your audience. If you've achieved those two things, you can be proud of yourself.

Then just keep building on it - keep doing those two things, day after day, and watch what happens.
